About Downtown
Downtown Plymouth has served as the center of commerce and social gathering for the City of Plymouth and surrounding communities for more than 150 years. There is a rich
history of people and architecture combining to make downtown what it is today.
In 1982, the
Downtown Development Authority was formed to facilitate economic development for the downtown district through the building and maintenance of parking lots, street lighting and other streetscape features. The DDA also engages in marketing activities and runs the Music In the Air concert series on Fridays during the summer.
The City of Plymouth and the Plymouth Charter Township are two separate municipalities, but together they are referred to as the Plymouth Community with a combined
population of over 36,000 residents.
